Charlie's social science class has been looking into Identity, and investigating how family history shapes who we are. Charlie had to create a museum exhibit representing an event from his family history. Here is the explanantion he wrote:
A Story of Revenge
Henry Hunter was born 5 April 1831 on the Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland. At the age of 15 he died during a soccer game, reportedly due to a broken back. His 18 year old brother, John, pursued the culprit to the mainland, then to London, then all the way to Tasmania, and finally to Sydney.
Sometime between 1841 and 1849, John and Henry’s father Henry, died, so his wife, Agnes and her children left Plymouth to join John in Australia. John’s siblings were named Peter, Mary, Elizabeth, Archibald and James.
John married Mary Ann Fitzgibbon, who was an orphan from the potato famine in Ireland and came to Australia when she was fifteen. Following their marriage, they moved to Brisbane. John died there in 1873.
We don’t know if my great great great grandfather John Hunter ever found the one responsible for his brother’s death, nor do we know if he was chasing the true culprit. However thanks to them I have a good reason to use the term “G’day”.
